AI-Powered Chatbot Cyber-Risks
In a post on July 23rd, I highlighted the increasing popularity of AI chatbots for handling customer inquiries, providing information, and task automation. However, with such prominent technology come cybersecurity risks. Some of these include:
- Data breach and privacy concerns if sensitive information is exposed or a chatbot doesn’t meet privacy regulations
- Increased sophistication of threats through attack automation or more advanced techniques

- An evolving threat landscape from emerging threats
Then we pivot to potential attack paths that come with AI chatbots. Phishing and social engineering, for instance, could increase through criminals impersonating or reprogramming chatbots. Chatbots also provide another way to distribute malware and DoS attacks. We also can’t overlook how AI tools provide new channels for unauthorized access and exploitation, which will come with nuanced compliance and legal issues.

In my July 24th post, I alluded to my previous post just a day prior (see above). This time, instead of focusing on the risks, I cover mitigation measures for AI chatbots. For example:
