Through our partnership with Defenders for Children, we’re honored to play a role in the primary mission: protecting children and stopping those who hurt them.
Defenders for Children: Dedicated to Advocating for the Rights and Welfare of Children
Defenders for Children is a remarkable nonprofit organization focused on preventing child abuse, trafficking, and child pornography to improve the lives of children and break the cycle of abuse.
Who They Are
The Defenders for Children’s mission is to raise awareness of critical issues like child abuse, exploitation, and trafficking. They also aid law enforcement efforts to ensure every child gets the protection and support they deserve.
One way Defenders for Children does this is through electronic detection of K9s. By providing and developing trained police dogs, law enforcement can more effectively prevent violence and protect our nation’s youth. They’re specially trained to locate devices commonly used by child abusers and traffickers and that contain crucial evidence in child exploitation cases.
Some of these dogs are even trained as emotional support animals and provide therapeutic treatment to abused children. But it doesn’t stop there.
The Defenders for Children impact extends far beyond immediate intervention. They also educate about the issue of child trafficking and abuse and the role of service dogs when it comes to protecting our youth.
Impactful Initiatives: More K9s, More Children Rescued
Donated K9s through Defenders for Children have played a huge role in uncovering evidence that has rescued children from exploitative situations.
In one such success story, the Richland County Sheriff’s Department successfully executed over 30 searches in one year using the nose of an electronic detection K9. In another similar story, the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office had found numerous illegal electronic devices using an electronic detection K9.
Some of these heroic dogs even win awards for their service and accomplishments. For example, five K9s were given the AKC Hero Award last year for providing tons of evidence used to prosecute criminals.
The positive impact is taking shape all over the country.
